The four cornerstones of the Frye Organization, founded in 1978, are history, integrity, trust and tradition.
For founder D.B. (Bart) Frye, Jr., it is only fitting that Frye Properties is headquartered in a 19th Century, former manor home in the historic Freemason area of Norfolk, Virginia.
Frye transformed this gorgeous piece of workmanship and pride from an era-gone-by into the homebase of one of the East Coast’s most respected and trusted real estate development, property management, construction and sales companies.
Frye has learned from nearly 40 years in the development field that success is more than bricks and mortar. It’s about establishing an A-team of like-minded people who embrace our vision and philosophy to be the best, build the best, and manage the best for our clients and our legacy.
Frye began his career in Norfolk after graduating from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
Frye’s first job out of the Maxwell School was in Hampton Roads, working for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. He remembers getting lost in the same section of town, where, 30 years later, he broke ground on the award-winning East Beach community.
At the redevelopment authority, Frye advanced quickly and, at 27 years old, moved across the Elizabeth River to become Executive Director of the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. There, he helped transform the city’s historic Olde Towne neighborhood into a vibrant community of fine, single-family homes with character, livability, heritage and entertainment. At the time, Olde Towne homes were being cut up into multiple apartment units, destroying the fabric and character of this great community. Providing just the catalyst for change the city needed, Frye helped alter Portsmouth’s history by redeveloping the downtown waterfront, advocating the start of the very successful ferry-service between Norfolk and the city, and ushering through America’s only privately constructed City Hall. These accomplishments were an integral part of redeveloping the entire downtown waterfront and the results have endured as essential assets of Portsmouth.
Building on his public-sector experience where he worked hand-in-hand with private-sector investors and supporters, Frye opened Frye Properties, Inc., and began transforming decaying urban areas into renaissance communities. Frye Properties put the “pride” back into managing these reclaimed assets.
Frye’s team of professionals work tirelessly to make sure anything branded with the Frye name equals history, integrity, trust and tradition – the Frye Factor. Guaranteed.
We look forward to hearing from you!
