East Beach Norfolk, Virginia

East Beach is situated on 100 acres along the Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk. Surrounded by water, the New Urbanist neighborhood is fashioned after classic Southeastern seaboard coastal villages. The master plan (developed by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company) for the $450 million East Beach neighborhood includes 700 residences, neighborhood restaurants, boutique retail and offices, as well as the signature Bay Front Club. East Beach was recently named the 2006 Community of the Year by Tidewater Builders Association, and one of the homes, which Mr. Frye constructed, was spotlighted nationally as the 2005 Coastal Living Idea House. East Beach has been featured in numerous national publications, including Coastal Living and US Airways magazines as well as Virginia Living, Hampton Roads, Tidewater Builders, and Professional Builder publications. All homes in the neighborhood are crafted by a select group of builders in the East Beach Guild in accordance with the East Beach Pattern Book prepared by Urban Design Associates.

East Beach is a unique initiative between the developers, East Beach Company LLC, the City of Norfolk and Norfolk Redevelopment & Housing Authority. Bart Frye is the managing partner of East Beach Company, LLC, the developer. East Beach was the site of Tidewater Builders Association’s Homearma in 2004, a first for Norfolk. Attendance records were broken during this three-week showcase. Home prices range from mid 500,000s to more than $1 million. East Beach serves as a catalyst for the resurgence of the Ocean View section of Norfolk.
